Setting up a bar? There are so many things to consider:
Barware for cocktails – cocktails can be a great source of additional profit in any bar operation. It is not just a question of mixing some select spirits with fruits and decorations, if you want to do cocktails properly you will need professional barware such as cocktail shakers either the traditional stainless steel or increasingly popular is the Boston shaker which is half glass and half stainless steel. Barware that you will also need may include ‘save or serve’ containers for those fruit syrups along with strainers, mixing spoons and muddlers. To finish off your barware will need a selection of straws and stirrers not to mention cocktail picks and sticks.
Barware measures – UK laws require that alcohol is served in governed measures. To do this most bars will rely on the use of either standard measures or optics. Occasionally cocktail bar operators want their staff to ‘freepour’ without the use of measures. This is possible as long as the staff are trained to judge an accurate measure.
